Personal Safety

Your Safety Matters

The resources found on this page are intended to heighten awareness of jobsite and worker safety. Most of the information found here is available from OSHA's site.

The other critical issue addressed on this page is the pervasiveness of counterfeit products within our work and home lives. As time goes by, more deaths and injuries are attributed to these products - and more major electrical manufacturers are implementing their own anti-counterfeit awareness campaigns; GE, Schneider Electric and Eaton are most notable in these efforts.

Counterfeit Product Awareness

Counterfeiting has been a growing problem worldwide for more than a decade and has increased by 10,000 percent over the past 20 years. In 2009, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that electrical products represented 13 percent of all counterfeit products seized ? the second-highest total of any category.

A counterfeit product uses, without authorization, the trademark, service mark or copyright of another product, with the intent to deceive prospective customers into believing that the product is genuine. Counterfeiters prey on recognized brands with a large installed base. This is especially true of high volume, relatively low cost products with high market demand. Types of fraudulent electrical products include: control relays for industrial equipment; circuit breakers; receptacles; ground fault circuit interrupters; power strips; surge suppressors; and power cords. As access to illicit manufacturing and distribution via the internet increases, it becomes easier for these counterfeit products to find their way into the marketplace.

Identifying counterfeit products is extremely difficult.

Counterfeiting costs global companies $500 billion annually. Counterfeit products look exactly like the real products but are made with inferior materials, inaccurate manufacturing processes and without functional or safety testing. Counterfeit electrical components create a dangerous environment for your customers or employees. Don?t depend on your ability to spot a fake. Eaton is the only manufacturer of authentic replacements for Challenger, Powerware, Moeller, Cutler-Hammer and Westinghouse electrical distribution and control products.

Eaton has collaborated with the electrical industry and governments worldwide to prevent the flow of counterfeit products at borders and halt production at its source. Eaton?s global task force has dedicated itself to the anti-counterfeiting mission, developing programs and methods to help thwart counterfeiting through education and training of customs groups, law enforcement, distributors and customers.

Eliminate your risk of buying counterfeit products by purchasing through an Eaton authorized distributor. Always buy authentic; buy Eaton.
To find an authorized distributor visit us at eaton.com/counterfeit, under How to Buy. For additional product support contact 1-877-BRK-SRVC.
