This post is a follow up to our Friday, June 25th announcement regarding the Nation-wide Shortage of Electronic Ballasts. This is the first formal news release we've seen from our lighting manufacturers acknowledging the shortage.
Please read the release from Philips Lightolier:
Fluorescent Ballast Shortages
Please be advised that there is a nation wide shortage of electronic ballasts due to a world wide electronic component shortage including capacitors and integrated circuits.
Note the following:
- We are currently seeing considerable amount of shortages in program and rapid start T8, T5 and T5HO ballasts. There are some instances where we are getting quoted 7-8 weeks on some of these ballast models. We are even beginning to see shortages on some specialty instant start T8 models.
- Industry experts have advised us that this shortage could intensify even further in the summer months ahead when we are usually the busiest. It could start even impacting dimming products.
One possible way to assist the factory and your customer is to order your fluorescent products with generic ballast suffixes for program and instant start ballast. This way the factory will have the flexability to work with 3 or 4 of our major ballast vendors to procure the ballast instead of being tied into a specific model from one vendor. It is possible that we may come back to you and ask if you know the voltage of your project because some ballast manufactures may still have voltage specific on the shelf.
If there are any further questions please let me know.
Sincerely,
Tony Gargas
Sr. Fluorescent Product Manager
